Posted: 07 Jan 2011 02:08 PM PST Exercise at The Manor The Manor of Novi, one of Ciena Healthcare's 33 nursing and rehabilitation communities in Michigan, is the new host of Ernie Clark's POWERSIT, a free exercise program specifically designed for seniors. The program is open to its residents and seniors in the community. With the help of Ernie Clark, a former Detroit Lions football player and founder of Life Long Fitness, participants can "sit and get fit" and learn about improving their health and fitness. "This free program is an opportunity for our residents and area seniors to socialize and get involved in physical activities to heal and maintain a healthy mind and body," said Lisa Berthold, administrator, The Manor of Novi. The exercise program will take place on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month starting on Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the Activities Department at (248) 477-2000, or novi_admissions@cienafacilities.com. The Manor of Novi is located at 24500 Meadowbrook Road. Fitness classes offered As 2010 comes to a close, the tradition of setting a New Year's Resolution is upon us. Millions of New Year's Resolutions are made each year and some of the most common ones are to lose weight and improve overall physical health. The Novi Parks Department achieves its mission of Enriching Lives and Strengthening Community, in part, by offering a wide variety of programs which promote healthy and active lifestyles. Audition for 'The Producers' The Farmington Players are holding auditions for "The Producers" by Mel Brooks at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 at the Farmington Players Barn, 32332 W. 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills. Show dates are April 29-30 and May 1, 6-8, 12-15 and 19-21. (2 of 2) Triad Open House Jan. 11 The Triad Gym & Performance Training Center will have an open house from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11. For those interested in classes, Triad offers a variety, from the challenging circuit class to boxing, spinning, plyometrics, kettle bells and karate. The center is owned by Kirk Vickers, who has trained student athletes, professional athletes and workout enthusiasts for years. His performance training is customized to the athlete's level and is sport-specific. He is considered an expert in injury prevention and performance enhancement and offers innovative, customized workouts. Vickers can also help those with annoying back, sciatic and muscle issues and can work with a client and the client's doctor to make sure the doctor's orders are fulfilled and enhanced when the person is ready. MSU Extension offers Michigan Conservation Stewards Program beginning Feb. 26 Are you looking for a great opportunity to learn about conservation and natural science and assume leadership roles through volunteering your time, knowledge, and skills in conservation management in your community? Individuals who take part in the Michigan Conservation Stewards Program (CSP) can learn how to effectively take part in informed, scientifically based conservation and resource management and work to sustain healthy ecosystems across Michigan. This 10-week program consists of nine Monday evening classes (6-9 p.m.) and three Saturday field sessions (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) from Feb. 26 through April 25. Monday evening sessions are held at the Oakland County Executive Office Building Conference Center, 2100 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford. Saturday sessions will be held at the MSU Tollgate Education Center, Indian Springs Metropark, and Independence Oaks County Park. Registration fee is $275.
